Once the school year begins, we don’t get to go into the center as a family as often as we’d like, but yesterday, a Friday, we decided it was time. We headed in for our annual tradition of buying “bundeva” (pumpkins) at a quaint little square for British folk (o.k., not really, but it is called “Britanski Trg” – British Square). We didn’t get pumpkins, but we’ve learned to be flexible living in another culture and realize things are not always what you expect them to be. So, come with us… We wanted you to see what we see, and see our beautiful city, and especially how our city flows in the bustle of the Fall season!!
Here are some other things we see on our drive into the center. This is a picture of a populous street, Frankopanska. Interesting fact, you can buy Settlers of Catan on this street!
This is a common occurrence, getting stuck behind a tram in the city.
Old buildings like this one can be speckled throughout the city.
We arrived at our destination – Britanski Trg (see below). And as beautiful as it is, there were NO pumpkins, the market wasn’t even open. I still try to be a “planner” in this culture, and so before heading out, I looked up online when the market was supposed to be open until. We arrived 1 hr earlier than said closed time, YET everything was already shut down. Instead of getting bummed about it, we decided to head on to something sweeter…our favorite ice cream place!
We continued our journey, walking down this street, called Ilica, the main street that goes through the main square.
On our way to our ice cream store, we pass the funicular that we have never ridden in almost 3 years. We need to put it on our list of things to do. 53 seconds of fun!
Zagreb is filled with little courtyards that hold many stories, some have cafes, some have apartments. I just liked the look of this one for some reason.
And then the sweet sweet arrival to our favorite ice cream place in Zagreb!
